Kill Bill: Quentin Tarantino talked with Canal Plus TV and mentioned his next project is this film with Patricia Arquette and follows the story of a hooker who slips into a ten-year coma after being assaulted by her pimp. When she awakens she prepares to take revenge. He also confirmed the Vega Brothers project has been cancelled.
The Vega Brothers thing doesn't really surprise me, but Patricia Arquette does. Up until now, QT has said in every interview about Kill Bill that it would star Uma Thurman (who I think would be much better for it). Of course, it might just be a mistake. There's a new poll asking who you'd rather see in it.
The last one, by the way, 'What are your feelings on 'Kill Bill'?', ended with 66% saying it sounds great, 30% for it sounds okay, and 2% think it sounds horrible.

"I work in production in Greenwich, CT, and I saw something pretty damn interesting: actual stills of Fred Williamson and Charles Bronson posing with Quentin. Fred and Chuck were both in western gear. Quentin was wearing a Kangol hat. It looked all dusty and hot and brown. Could this have been a picture from Forty Lashes? I didn't think much about it until I read El Rojo's posts. Maybe this is why Quentin's been talking about naming a character after Bronson in his WWII flick. And why he's dropped word that that movie will be called Glorious Bastards -- an obvious reference to the Williamson/Bo Svenson war epic G.I. Bro. Are these clues? One more thing. The Quentin stills were in a folder labeled "Cerebral Assassin." Could this be a reference to the two prisoners in Forty Lashes? I haven't read the book. Somebody (Quentin?) also wrote "insane criminal" inside the folder. Another clue? Maybe someone who has read the book might have some insight."
If this is true, it's almost proof: The main characters in the book are black and Indian. Seems very likely that QT would cast Fred Williamson and Bronson, and I don't think either are getting cast in many OTHER westerns nowadays. Of course, it might be complete BS...
Thanks to Asiteapart for clueing me in.

Quentin Tarantino in France Shooting WWII flick allegedly called GLORIOUS BASTARDS?
Hey folks, Harry here.... I've been seeing all sorts of talk about Quentin Tarantino and his alleged future film directing directions at the moment. Dark Horizons is running a story, which references UK tabloid THE GUARDIAN, New York tabloid the NEW YORK POST and the New York Magazine... that Quentin is currently in France shooting his WWII film which they're calling GLORIOUS BASTARDS.... and that he's currently working on the screenplay to THE VEGA BROTHERS.
Well, about a week ago I was drinking a Crown and Coke and Quentin was having a Screwdriver here in Austin, Texas at the TEXAS FILMMAKERS HALL OF FAME awards kicking of South By Southwest. We were talking everything from the dear place in his heart for GARBAGE PAIL KIDS THE MOVIE to the history of Chris Mitchum to the glory of SEVEN BLOWS OF THE DRAGON to the ABC broadcast version of SUPERMAN THE MOVIE and how he's finally come into owning a crisp beautiful 35mm print of ROLLING THUNDER after a near decade of searching...
Now I bring all this up, cuz by the time he got to ROLLING THUNDER he said that it would definitely be a part of QT5 here in Austin.... The Fifth Quentin Tarantino Film Festival, which would be extremely heavy on REVENGE flicks given that the film he is CURRENTLY writing is the Uma flick (aka KILL BILL) which he plans to shoot this Fall. He called this his next film... And certainly while we talked for 2 hours he never brought up the WWII flick, which... Now... who knows, maybe he's keeping it way below radar... and as much as my heart wants to believe that, and to believe that it is titled GLORIOUS BASTARDS... Quentin left Austin to return to Los Angeles.... not France. And has anyone heard of Adam Sandler signing or flying to France yet? Cuz he apparently has a role in this flick that... well... He's still shooting with Paul Thomas Anderson.

Pulp Fiction: Episode One
If you want to know what happens to the characters in Pulp Fiction after the movie ends, too bad. But Quentin Tarantino is planning to reveal the story preceding the 1994 groundbreaker in a prequel tentatively titled The Vega Brothers, which will star John Travolta and Michael Madsen. Fans will recall that Vincent Vega -- played by Travolta in a career-reviving role -- is the heroin-addicted hit man who's machine-gunned to death by Bruce Willis while sitting on the toilet. Some may also recall that Madsen played a torture-lovin' character named Vic Vega in Reservoir Dogs. The actor has been kicking himself for years for turning down Travolta's Pulp role to work on the Kevin Costner snooze-a-thon Wyatt Earp, but Tarantino's recently been telling the actor he'll have his second Vega moment yet. A rep for Madsen confirmed that Tarantino is indeed writing the script for Madsen and Travolta, adding that production is expected to begin after the director finishes shooting his World War II flick Glorious Bastards in France, also starring Madsen. Still no word about what was in that damn briefcase.
I know a lot of people don't think this is a very good idea, but I can't wait to see it. Is it a little cheesy? Maybe, we'll see, but so is From Dusk till Dawn, and it's a great movie. As far as the WWII one, I'm not really digging the title Glorious Bastards, but it's great to see that Quentin's gonna be making up for lost time. Kill Bill, Glorious Bastards, and The Vega Brothers - very cool.

Mr. Blonde: Shades, .45 caliber pistol, soda cup, razor, and alternate gun hand
Mr. Orange: Shades, .45 caliber pistol, detective's badge, alternate gun hand, and maybe a pack of smokes
Mr. White: Shades, two .45 caliber pistols, zippo lighter, and alternate gun hands
Mr. Pink: Shades, jewel bag, and alternate hand.
Apparently Steve Buscemi didn't want the Mr. Pink toy to come with a gun. Also, there's plans for a boxed gift set which would includ Mr. Brown (that'll be so cool...) and a "warehouse playset" which will include a Marvin figure. A second line is also planned, to include Joe, Nice Guy Eddie, and new versions of Mr. White and Mr. Orange (I wanna see a toy of the real star of the movie, Mr. Blue).

"Artisan is very heavily supporting this. They're re-releasing the movie. There's a new DVD coming out in November - special footage, alternate scenes, behind-the-scenes, some interviews with Quentin [Tarantino], that kind of thing. We'll have information about the figures in the DVD. So the general viewing public that may or not be into figures will be aware of it."
I'm really hoping it'll have an audio commentary on it....

Reservoir Dogs Become Reservoir Dolls
The characters from director Quentin Tarantino's cult film Reservoir Dogs are making a comeback - as dolls. Artisan Entertainment has unveiled dolls of the colorful criminals played by Tim Roth, Harvey Keitel and Steve Buscemi to mark the 10th anniversary of Quentin Tarantino's classic heist movie. The 7-inch figures cost from $10-$12 each, and will hit novelty stores in America in April. Artisan plan to follow up their distribution by releasing 12-inch figures this summer of Keitel's character Mr. White, Michael Madsen's Mr. Blonde, and his abused-cop victim Marvin Nash - accessorised with the psychopathic criminal's trademark torture tools - a straight razor, gas can, and radio. Artisan's marketing head Amorette Jones, referring to the torture scene, says, "We're going back on forth on whether to make the ear detachable!"
Heh, I was wondering about the ear, too. Anyway, we've now got a more specific release date and a price. Groovy.

The Latest On Quentin Tarantino's KILL BILL
Hey folks, Harry here... No, I don't have a start date for KILL BILL, the next Quentin Tarantino film... but I do have knowledge that the film is moving forward.
As you read this, Uma Thurman is working her ass off training to wield a katana in the Japanese Shogun style. She's spending hours a day training for this, and has been for weeks now. In addition, I know she's been training in other martial arts, with whom... I don't know, but I do know that her Katana trainer is none other than Tom Muzila... who has worked on all the good Steven Seagal films (aka nothing after UNDER SIEGE), THE PHANTOM, HIGHLANDER ENDGAME and a ton of other work. He's an ex special forces badass according to Monkey King, and is damn fine with a katana according to reports.
Now here's the thing, at this point Quentin Tarantino is coming to Austin for SXSW, he has at least one panel that I know of with Robert Rodriguez and Richard Linklater. I know at one time he was wanting to film part of KILL BILL in Austin. That is the second week of March. Is Quentin set to start up on KILL BILL? Has he been quietly assembling a cast beyond Uma and the long rumored Warren Beatty, who has been alleged to play Bill? Inquiring minds like mine wanna know.
When Quentin was last in Austin for his Film Festival he was finishing up a polish on the script and was quite excited. Let's hope this is a pre-strike flick... I don't want months of delays. That'd blow...
Well, yeah, that'd certainly "blow". Still trying to decide whether there's enough info on Kill Bill to start a new section for it. I'll most likely put one up soon.

Tarantino talks 'Bill'
We've always suspected Quentin Tarantino skated on the edge of pure madness, and now ladies and gentlemen we have the proof.
The writer-director has been talking to Popcorn about his plans for his latest project, 'Kill Bill'. He's written the script specifically for Uma Thurman, who has already agreed to star and says he will be "finished with it probably in about a week."
He calls his project a "chick revenge movie" and reveals that Thurman is going to have to learn some unusual skills for her role. "Uma is going to have to do all this training, like samurai sword fighting, she's got to learn how to rollerskate."
So far so interesting. But then the director gets a little carried away with himself and tells us "she's going to have to learn how to fly. There'll be no wires, none of this Crouching Tiger, Hidden Meaning. It's going to be Uma flying through the air killing people for real." Somehow we wouldn't put it past the man.
Tarantino admits there might be a couple of flaws in his plan, firstly the fact that no one actually knows how to fly and secondly that he might find hiring other actors a little tricky if Uma is going to bump them off "for real". But he reckons he's got it covered.
"Best not to tell them right away," he explains, "they'll be less likely to do the job, but then, after they're dead, and it's art, what can they say?" Well quite.

Popcorn.co.uk just posted an article on Kill Bill:
Tarantino Discusses 'Kill Bill' It's been a while since Quentin Tarantino last got behind a movie camera, but after three years he's raring to go again. Popcorn caught up with the actor-director at the premiere of Adam Sandler's new movie 'Little Nicky' - in which Tarantino has a role - to ask him about 'Kill Bill' and why he's working with Uma Thurman again.
"The thing I'm doing is like an idea that I had on the set of 'Pulp Fiction'," explains Tarantino, who sounds likes he's going for the world record for speed talking.
"I wrote the first 30 pages of it right after 'Pulp Fiction', then put it away." Seven years later he has now finished the 'Kill Bill' script, which he describes as a "balls-to-the-wall, violent revenge movie". So, your average Tarantino pic, then.
His 'Pulp Fiction' star Uma Thurman has already signed up to the project, something Tarantino is clearly happy about. "After we worked on 'Pulp Fiction'," he explains, "we've always kind of felt she was my actress and I was her director. So we just wanted to work together again."
The director is a little more reticent over rumours that Warren Beatty is going to be in the movie as well. All he will says is: "I don't know about how anything is going to work out, but it would be my honour some day to work wth Warren Beatty." Tarantino describes the actor as "one of the greatest talents in the history of movies, but we'll just see what happens".
As for his leading star, Thurman told Popcorn at the 'Golden Bowl' premiere: "It's a very risqué movie, a female revenge film. I think Quentin's going to up the ante in his creativity and madness. I've just been hearing it as he's been writing it. It sounds extremely exciting but extremely frightening. It'll be the wildest thing that I'll have ever done!"
In the meantime, you can see Tarantino trying to scare off Adam Sandler's Devil when 'Little Nicky' is released in the UK on November 17. Uma Thurman is on British screens from today with the release of 'The Golden Bowl'.

'Word has it that Quentin Tarantino has been in talks with Warren Beatty for the star to jump into his unnamed film project that will also star Uma Thurman, according to Fox 411 columnist Roger Friedman. An unnamed "insider" is quoted regarding the matter, saying, "Quentin has been talking to him. It's serious."
Previously, while talking to the New York Times, Tarantino would only say that this current project was a "noir" film and that "my fans will really like."
Very cool, and here's a not-so-cool, not-so-news article that appeared on Dark Horizons:
'Battlefield Earth 2: Be afraid, be VERY afraid. John Travolta is out doing the publicity for "Lucky Numbers" and made an admission to Reuters which has made some people go white in fear - a BE sequel is on the way. Asked at the junket if a sequel was to be made, he said "Sure. Yeah. The bottom line is that I feel really good about it. Here I was taking big chances, breaking a new genre...The book stood for something classic and this [sequel] hopefully will too". What about all the bad critics reviews and horrible box-office? "I am so thrilled, believe it or not, at the outcome because I didn't believe I could get it done...When I felt better about everything was when George Lucas and Quentin Tarantino and a lot of people that I felt knew what they were doing, saw it and thought it was a great piece of science fiction". Hmm, Ok. Expect those tall aliens with the bad hairdos to grace the screen again in 2002 or 2003. Thanks to 'The Insider', 'TVsHenry', 'Greg' & 'JD'.
Again, it doesn't have the slightest bit of news in it, but I figured some people might be interested. Let's hope QT was just being nice (c'mon...that was BAD)...

Last and certainly least, we received the info (finally) from Buena Vista on just will and won't be on the upcoming 10/6 bow of the From Dusk Til Dawn special edition. Unfortunately, the 2-disc set will not be anamorphic widescreen (despite the fact that an anamorphic transfer exists, of course), and features English Dolby Digital 5.1 and French 2.0 surround tracks, all the same features as the previous laserdisc (the commentary, making-of, etc.) and on the second disc the complete Full Tilt Boogie feature in full frame and 2.0 stereo. Retail remains at $29.95.
Nifty. Official word. Let's hope they stick to it.
9/24/00
Also, here is a great interview. The best thing about it is the DVD news. One of the most asked questions (behind "What's in the briefcase?" and "What happened to Mr. Pink?"), "Where's the Jackie Brown DVD?" can now be answered. Quentin says that we can expect Jackie Brown and the Criterion Pulp Fiction both on DVD. Very good news.

Yet more on...
...From Dusk Til Dawn and This Is Spinal Tap. In good news, Buena Vista will be issuing a press release on the full From Dusk Til Dawn set to quell the confusion on just will and won't be on the disc, and got back to us that street date is indeed still 10/3. However, the disc won't be anamorphic, but watch for the full release in a few days with all the specs.
Well, we'll see if we actually do get it on October 3rd, but it seems like good news (better than 'it's cancelled', anyway). Let's hope they'll keep all the extras on it.
9/18/00
In what is sure to be disappointing news for many of you, the planned From Dusk Til Dawn special edition, as well as the From Dusk Til Dawn and Prophecy box sets due over the next weeks have been indefinitely postponed. The listings have also been removed from the Buena Vista site, and a reply from their PR department confirms there is no new date for these titles, though they have not been canceled outright. Stay tuned, maybe they'll show up by next Halloween?
Damn....

Tarantino Movie Projects
Rumors fly back and forth, but there hasn't really been anything solid regarding Quentin Tarantino's next movie project until now. While talking to the New York Times, the director revealed what he's been working on a noirish thriller that he plans to star Uma Thurman in. Tarantino says, "My fans are gonna love this one. They've been waiting a long time, and I think they're really going to happy with it."
In addition, the director revealed that the much rumored World War II drama is real and that he's been trimming and polishing the screenplay.
So it seems Kill Bill is definitely gonna be Quentin's next project, and it looks like the World War II film will come next. What's also interesting about the article is that there's no mention at all of 40 Lashes, which is what pretty much everybody thought would be his next film. I'm hoping we'll eventually get to see it, because a western by QT seems like a perfect idea.
Also, one last thing...this seems like the perfect time to point out the Message Board, which has gone pretty much completely unnoticed, so head over there and discuss your feelings on this big announcement.

Jackson Says Spike Lee Is Jealous Of Tarantino
The feud between Samuel L. Jackson and Spike Lee continues after the actor claimed Lee is annoyed Quentin Tarantino made "blacker" films. Jackson, who starred in Tarantino-directed Pulp Fiction (1994) and Jackie Brown (1997), had criticised the script of his new film Shaft (2000) for being too "white" - causing Malcolm X (1992) director Lee to deride Jackson as racist for using the word "nigga" 34 times in Jackie Brown (1997) and 28 times in Pulp Fiction (1994). But Jackson hits back, "In my opinion Spike is the last person who should try to censor someone. That was the voice my character spoke in. I think Spike probably has a bigger beef that Quentin made a more interesting black movie."

Also, if you've sent me an e-mail asking me to link to your site within the last few months, please re-send it; I've lost the messages.
8/27/00
Not only was QT there wadering around through the audience and talking to everyone (!), but come to find out (through the Talk Back) that so was Rodriguez. Jeez...who do I have to kill to get there?
Most interesting of all, though, was QT's comment about the WWII film NOT being his next. Guess that means 40 Lashes is the next one again? Gotta get that page up soon.

'Hey Harry,
Keith Partridge here.I just opened this weeks television schedule from the Columbus Dispatch and inside there was a section called Vital Statistics, where an actors personal info is given every week. This weeks was Michael Madsen and when asked what his current projects are,the first one he mentioned was Quentin Tarantino's "World War II",which is what he calls a reworking of The Dirty Dozen. The war film is not anything new,but I haven't heard anything about Madsen being involved up till now.He made no mention of anyone else, including Adam Sandler,so Lord knows who else will be in this, but apparantly it has a title now.Anyways, thought you and everyone else would like to know that.Keep up the good work and stay cool.
Keith Partridge'
Well, the title isn't exactly all that great (I'm sure it's only a working title), but what is is the fact that Madsen's gonna be in it. He gave, in my opinion, the best performance of anyone in any of Tarantino's films as Mr. Blonde in Dogs, and it's great to see that they're finally going to be working together again.
7/4/00
"In addition to the previously mentioned features, FROM DUSK TIL DAWN will also feature, yes, the FULL TILT BOOGIE documentary on a second disc. The 2-disc set will come in a double-alpha pak, and retail for $39.95. And, yes, the transfer (on the film only, as I'm told FULL TILT BOOGIE was shot full frame) will be anamorphic widescreen. Cool. Also on the same day comes a FROM DUSK TIL DAWN collector's box set, which features the Collector's Series version of the first film, and the other two movie-only editions of DAWN 2 and DAWN 3. Retail is $79.95."
This is really great news, considering that most people (including myself) have never seen Full Tilt Boogie. This DVD just keeps getting better and better...
6/30/00
"Also, we were sent the full specs for the FROM DUSK TIL DAWN disc, and retail price is $39.95. The features include an audio commentary with Director Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino, and effects supervisor Greg Nicotero, deleted scenes with optional commentary, outtakes, a documentary "Hollywood Goes to Hell", 2 music videos, a still gallery with storyboards, concept drawings and production photos, the trailer and TV spots. No mention is made of the documentary FULL TILT BOOGIE, but the final press release hasn't arrived yet, and given the $39.95 price, we can cross our fingers and hope for a 2-disc set??"
Also, didn't realize I accidentally put "Little Green Bag" as the background music for the PF page, so I just changed it to "Misirlou". From Dusk till Dawn will probably be up tomorrow.
6/29/00
6/28/00
"Also, in good news for FROM DUSK TIL DAWN fans, the long-delayed special editon disc has gottne a new date, 9/26. The disc wil feature the same features as the laserdisc, but according to Buena Vista the disc will be getting a new transfer, which I can hope means anamorphic. The rest of the features are all the same from the laserdisc, including the audio commentary and deleted scenes also with commentary. Stay tuned for more."
The info about the release date has been available for a few days, but the specific bonus material is news (although I figured it'd be the same as the LD).
I changed the Message Board, too. It's now much better looking (the old one was very ugly...).
6/25/00
Anyway, a few important things popped up over the last few weeks, including this from Dark Horizons on June 8th:
"Cryptic hints are leaking out on Quentin Tarantino's future projects, courtesy of inside.com. Hard at work on his World War Two project for Miramax, it seems he's quietly been writing a project entitled "Kill Bill" for good friend Uma Thurman. KB centers around a woman in a coma, features "a great sense of comeuppance" and will shoot next year."
Also, the Switchblade Sisters DVD came out and the From Dusk till Dawn special edition DVD has been pushed back to 9/26. Damn.
